Why Yucatan?

Caves and Cenotes

Have you ever been in a subterranean cave? There are many of these under the Yucatan Peninsula! Caves were sacred places for the ancient Maya and are quite impressive. There is always a guide to take the visitors through them and to explain all the history. The most fascinating sites are Loltun, Calcehtok and Balankanche.

One of the most beautiful and unusual wonders of Yucatan are the Cenotes (sinkholes). The name was taken for the mayan word “dzonot” that means “cavity of water”. Cenotes are unique formations with crystalline water and vary in size and shape. You could have an unforgettable experience by swimming in to them. The most visited cenotes are Cuzama, Zaci and Dzinup.
